“Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” JAMES 4:1-3

The historic causes of war have been many and each cause is a reflection of the evil which has infected the souls of the war mongers.

Following are some of the evil causes of war:

HATRED and BIGOTRY: Hatred and bigotry directed toward others who speak a different language, have different colored skin, or worship God in a different way is a frequent cause of war.

GREED: Greed kills. The desire to gain control of the wealth and property of others has resulted in many wars.

REVENGE: Vengeance toward groups, tribes, or countries whose members have committed an act against another group, tribe or country has been the cause of wars which sometimes last for hundreds of years.

LUST: Many wars, especially those of a tribal nature, have been fueled by a desire to obtain as many women as possible.

OVERPOPULATION: Failure to maintain a stable population has resulted in famine and death and thus a justification by those tribes or nations unwilling to control their population to take the lands of others through warfare.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION: Many tribes and nations have a history of exploiting their environment to the point that it can no longer support their peoples, thus resulting in the taking of the unspoiled environments of others through warfare.

“Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” JAMES 3:18
