"And God said, Let the Earth bring forth…grass, the herb, the fruit tree…and God created…every living creature that moveth…and every winged fowl…and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so…and God saw that it was good." (Genesis 1:11-25)

God created all forms of life for a purpose and was extremely concerned about good stewardship by man over that which he had designed to share our earthly home.

Furthermore, God retained ownership of the earth and all creation: "The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me." (Leviticus 25:23) As temporal tenants of the earth, God intended that each generation of tenant stewards leave the land in the same productive capacity as they had inherited their residency thereon.

Even when God was so disgusted with man that he decided to wipe the slate clean with a great flood and begin anew, he commanded that Noah protect breeding pairs of every living creature on earth. When the flood subsided God commanded Noah to "bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee…(including)…every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth." (Genesis 8:17)

Tragically, our world has been cursed with an overabundance of greedy men and women who view God's creation as a personal bounty to plunder and destroy. Of the many forms of such plunder clearcutting is perhaps the most evil.

Clearcutting is not only a crime against humanity; it is a contemptuous form of blasphemy.

Defiling God's creation in order to worship the graven images upon the faces of hundred dollar bills is an insult to God far worse than merely taking the Lord's name in vain in a fit of anger, or displaying a momentary carnal weakness.

The senseless destruction of creation caused by clearcutting God's forests leads to floods, extinction of species of untold value to the future of humankind, depletion of soils, and ultimately famine and death.

"Hurt not the Earth, neither the seas nor the trees…" (Revelations 7:3) "O Lord God Almighty…shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth." (Revelations 11:17-18) "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and all that dwell in it…"(Psalm 24:1)

Nowhere in the bible does God say that the earth belongs to the greedy to plunder and destroy for the sake of money and the pursuit of earthly pleasures paid for with the blood of countless of God's creatures.

Perhaps even more tragic is the fact that America has been cursed by the presence of some of Earth's most wealthy and powerful plunderers who have forsaken the law of God for the worship of money. These defilers of creation have not only steadily torn asunder but have spread their assault to the far reaches of the globe.

Our lovely earth is being stripped bare of the very fruit trees which God provided, not only for our benefit, but for the benefit of his myriad species of birds, squirrels, deer, and other wildlife. His pecans, figs, walnuts, hickories, olives, persimmons, oaks, and hundreds of other beautiful tree species are being clearcut, bulldozed, burned, poisoned, and girdled only to be replaced by barren wastelands and sterile pulp plantations.

God's topsoil is being washed into His rivers and streams. His springs are drying up. His birds and animals are losing their homes and are therefore condemned to starve in the name of greed.

If the clearcutters and other plunderers of God's earth will and vow to help save God's creation for future generations, then "all the trees of the forest will sing for joy." (Psalm 96:12)

If the clearcutters continue their evil ways, they will contribute to the early demise of planet Earth as a home for all of us creatures of God's marvelous web of life. Their legacy will be far worse than that left by even the most evil men of history -- for the destruction of species is everlasting.
